GPOY and current situation:

I have a problem. It is a good problem to have. People always talk about the glory days once they are over. I feel I’m conscious of currently living them.

The mountains have always been my dream. Standing among the high peaks of the Rockies, high above everything else around me, makes me feel alive. Enlightened. Aware. The plan was always to live among these mountains until I no longer felt the passion to want to get out of bed at 3am to see the alpenglow light the fresh snow. The passion is still there, but spending the last three months in the Bay area has awoken new passions.

San Francisco has a culture that doesn’t exist in Colorado. It’s a culture of “go.” I’ve always considered myself a laid back guy. It takes a lot, if anything, to get my blood boiling. I don’t stress about the simple things and never worry about issues that don’t have an affect on a the grand scale. Colorado is the perfect area for this satisfied mindset. San Francisco, however, seems to live a more proactive version of this lifestyle. The “do first, ask questions later” attitude. I’m in love with it and since returning home I miss it terribly.

Overall, though, home is a ridiculous concept. I am my own person and home to me is defined by people - not a place. With our lives becoming more digital, I am able to stay in touch with friends all over the globe in seconds. Airplanes can have me anywhere within hours and someone always has a couch to crash on.

There’s no real point to this story than to put it out on screen. Blogging about life is definitely not my thing, but maybe visualizing it will help make a decision to stay in Colorado or go back to California. Regardless, I’m young and this problem is a good thing. The glory days are a fun time, and I will continue to stretch them out as long as I can.

This location is one of my favorite places in Colorado. From this spot, I can climb a really fun ridge between Mount Edwards to Grays Peak (left in the photo). Below and behind me is a huge field of flowers that explodes with color during the summer months. There’s a waterfall just to the left and an abandoned mine down below to explore. It’s tough to find a spot all to yourself in this state and I feel lucky to have found the perfect spot to reflect and daydream.

This was an awesome way to start a softball season.

Exploring a place that’s been endlessly photographed presents a fun challenge. There are thousands upon thousands of shots of Horseshoe Bend from the same spot with the same composition and the same idea to come home with a photograph that everyone else has. I mean, look at this…

Not to say that I don’t want the same shot, but after that is captured, it’s fun to explore around to see what else can be had. After walking around the edge of the canyon for a few minutes, I found this nice notch which framed the Horseshoe well. The shot was okay, but just as I was about to move on to a new location this tourist walked into my frame to snap a memory for herself. I like what she adds to the photo, so in my shot she stays.
