I’ve had this photo, shot by Jack Brauer, at the forefront of my mind for the past three years. The photo was taken in winter from the summit of Mount Elbert, the tallest mountain in Colorado at 14,440 feet. Various obstacles have prevented me from taking this shot, from minimal snowfall this winter to horrible weather on full-moon nights.
This upcoming weekend is potentially shaping up to be my shot (no pun) at capturing this. It’s a full moon, the temperature will be well below zero degrees on the summit, but the wind is forecast at only 5mph and there is only a 10% chance of snow. It’s still early and things can change, but I am hoping to be standing on the tallest point in Colorado around midnight on Saturday and bringing home with me a shot of similar magnitude.
